Arizona State University
Arizona State University is the main campus of the Arizona University System. It was established as a public research institution on 1885. The school is located at Tempe, Arizona, USA. It is the second in rank of all United States higher education institutions in terms of the number of students enrolled in fact as of now approximately 60,000 or more undergraduate and post graduate students studying in this University.
Arizona State University is associated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Their official colors are maroon and gold and their commonly called the Sun Devils. Presently, Michael M. Crow is the president of Arizona State University.
History
Arizona State of University was established on February 26, 1885 when House Bill 164, “An Act to Establish a Normal School in the Territory of Arizona,” was initiated in the 13th Legislative Assembly of Arizona Territory by John Samuel Armstrong. The bill, strongly supported by Charles Trumbull Hayden of Tempe was accepted by the House on March 6 and the Council on March 11 and was signed by Governor F.A. Tritle on March 12, 1885. Under the administration of Principal Hiram Bradford Farmer, teaching was instituted on February 8, 1886, at the time when 33 students met in a single room on land given by George and Martha Wilson of Tempe.
The name of the school was altered thrice throughout its initial fifteen years, becoming the Normal School of Arizona in 1901. Successive changes were connected with development of the curriculum and degrees provided. In fast progression Tempe State Teachers College turned out to be Arizona State Teachers College, and, in 1945, Arizona State College. The college carried out all the tasked of a university, and received approval by an act of the governor to become Arizona State University by 1958.
